In recent months, various large companies announced building their campuses in Austin and calling the city their new home. The growing city continues to attract innovative companies from different sectors. In 2020, Austin has the No. 1 job market in the US according to the Wall Street Journal, and is the No. 1 best state capital to live in. Here are some of the new developments in Austin that you need to know.
1. Hyatt Centric Hotel
Developed by Denver-based real estate investor and developer McWhinney, the project was first announced in 2016 as a luxury apartment building that also features office space and a bar. The Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin is said to have 246 rooms and about 2,000 sq ft of meeting and event space scheduled to open in Winter 2021.
2. Natiivo Austin
Set to open this 2021, Natiivo Austin is a project co-developed by locally based Pearlstone Partners and Newgard Development. The Airbnb-powered apartment complex is designed for home-sharing. The 33-story building has a total of 249 units with furnished studios, one- to two-bedroom hotel licensed homes with prices from $400s to over $1.2 million.
3. 44 East Rainey
Canada-based real estate developer Intracrop revealed its plans for its first new development in Austin, TX. The high-rise condo tower at 44 East Avenue in Rainey Street District is set to be constructed in the fall of 2022. The structure is said to have 51 stories and 545 feet tall within floor plans with 1- to 4-bedrooms.
4. 6 X Guadalupe
Announced in 2018 by developer Lincoln Property Company and Kairoi Residential, 6 X Guadalupe is planned to rise 845 feet at the streets of West Sixth and Guadalupe. The 66-story tower is said to have more than 300 luxury apartments and more than half a million square feet of office and retail space and is scheduled for completion in 2022.
Located at 401 South 1st Street, the 15-story mixed-use project brings more than 300,000 square feet of offices and about 18,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The building offers a Sky Lounge, office and retails space, parking and biking storage as well as a fitness studio with locker rooms. RiverSouth is set to deliver in early 2021.
6. Indeed Tower
Indeed Tower is a mixed-use development that consists of 36-stories of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the stunning Lady Bird Lake, The Capitol, and the Texas Hill Country. The tower has over 673,438 square feet of office space and 33,000 square feet of retail with a completion date of 2021.
7. Apple Campus
In 2019, Apple announced its expansion in Austin where it has broken ground on its new $1 billion, 3-million square-foot campus that will initially house 5,000 employees with a capacity to grow up to 15,000. Apple reported that it and its manufacturing partners have invested more than $200 million in the 244,000 square foot Mac Pro facility. The Facility is expected to be completed in 2022.
8. Tesla’s Gigafactory
Musk picked Austin for its $1 billion auto factory. Announced in July 2020, the Gigafactory has started its construction in eastern Travis County at Del Valle. It is said that is this one of the world’s largest and most advanced plants. The facility is planned to be the main factory for the Tesla Cybertrucks and the Tesla Semi. The Gigafactory has planned to hire 5,000 people to staff its new facility.
9. Austin FC Soccer Stadium
The city’s new Major League Soccer League team, Austin FC has an ongoing stadium construction located at McCalla Place in North Austin. Designed by Gensler, the facility can hold up to 20,500 spectators as well as a variety of bars, clubs, and outdoor spaces. The stadium is set to debut at the start of the MLS 2021 season in April 2021.
10. Amazon’s 1,000-Job Fulfillment Center
In Pflugerville, Amazon confirms its 1,000-job fulfillment center with an expected launch date in 2021. The facility is estimated to have 3.8 million square feet and will be one of the biggest buildings in Pflugerville.
