Austin is a great city for tech workers. It’s America’s fastest-growing tech city and offers a myriad of great job opportunities for people in the tech industry. The company culture, the weather, and the nightlife are top notch and it’s actually an easy place to meet other companies that want to move their workers here.

If you’re thinking about moving to a new place to start your tech career or take your current career further, then you should look into moving to Austin. It is one of the best cities for tech workers. More companies are either expanding their operations or relocating their headquarters to Austin. The city’s workforce continues to grow with over 8,300 high-tech employers and a total of 176,404 or 17.1% in Austin’s tech industry as of 2020 according to the Austin Chamber.

Downtown Austin

Downtown Austin is a great place to live for tech workers. The area is close to many of the city’s major employers and tech startups making it convenient for those who work in the tech industry. You can find offices of tech giants including Google, PayPal, Cloudflare, TikTok, and Meta, Facebook’s parent company building their towers and leasing office floors to buildings throughout downtown.

There are several new builds and upcoming condos in Austin’s urban core with magnificent views of the Austin skyline and Lady Bird Lake. Some of these condos are Natiivo Austin, an Airbnb-powered residential skyscraper, and 70 Rainey, an innovative condo located on historic Rainey Street. 

New towers will be on the rise very soon such as Vesper Austin, The Modern a 55-story luxury condo with easy access to natural amenities, and The Travis apartment tower that is set to rise on East Avenue near Rainey. 

Residents living in Downtown Austin enjoy the convenience of its nearby stores, restaurants, bars, nightlife, and natural amenities.

North Austin

An excellent choice for those looking to be living in the suburbs with close proximity to Downtown Austin. North Austin is home to Dell Inc., the largest tech employer in the region and an estimated 14,000 employees. The Samsung Austin Semiconductor can also be found to the north of Central Texas. North Austin’s skyline continues to be reshaped with more tech companies moving to the area.

The Domain and its surrounding areas can be easily accessed by residents living within the neighborhoods of Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, and Pflugerville.

Northwest Austin

One of the fastest growing areas in Austin that offers a serene, quiet, and family-friendly environment. Northwest Austin is home to many of the city’s tech companies with most neighborhoods being close to the area’s tech hubs. 

Apple’s Austin campus is situated in Northwest Austin with its new facility open a mile away from the original campus. While Microsoft, Oracle, and Hewlett Packard have offices in Northwest Austin solidifying the area’s tech reputation.

Neighborhoods in Northwest Austin include several master-planned and gated communities that offer a wide array of amenities. Avery Ranch in northwest Austin offers gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside and large landscaped backyards and access to Austin’s premier golf course. 

River Place is another beautiful country club neighborhood in Northwest Austin. The gold and waterfront community has over 1,100 homes with panoramic views of the creek and canyonlands. For more spectacular views situated atop West Austin, Northwest Hills has homes that are stylish and luxurious with streets and trails perfect for morning and afternoon runs.

East Austin

East Austin offers a diverse and hip environment with plenty of restaurants, food trucks, and coffee shops surrounding the area. The presence of local businesses and sustainable living is strong in the area. Residents in the area enjoy outdoor activities and workouts at the Tejano Walking Trail and the Comal Pocket Park.

In 2021, Tesla announced the construction of their $1 billion Gigafactory in Del Valle, TX, and is expected to bring 5,000 jobs to the Austin area. Later that year, it was announced that Tesla is moving its headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Austin, Texas.
