Experience the best in Downtown Austin. With the growing numbers of new development, high-rise towers became the mecca of cool and comfort. From trendy retail stores, fancy amenities, a thriving food scene, and lively entertainment districts, Downtown Austin is surrounded by exciting and fun things to do.

While most residential areas in downtown Austin can be found in condominiums and skyscraper buildings, the area is surrounded by beautiful, well-established neighborhoods with single-family homes, townhomes, multi-family homes, and condos with home styles from the 1900s to newly built modern contemporary homes. In this blog, here are some of the neighborhoods near Downtown Austin.

1. East Cesar Chavez

East Cesar Chavez is a neighborhood located two miles to the east of IH-35 from downtown Austin. Since it is one of the most historic and first neighborhoods in Austin, you can find historic landmarks that define the area! Its proximity to downtown Austin, pedestrian-friendly lifestyle, culture, natural scenery, urban living, and the wide range of local restaurants, shops, and cafes attract homebuyers to settle in the neighborhood. In the serene residential part of East Cesar Chavez, you can find different home styles from historic to modern homes with Xeriscaped yards and elegant interiors.

2. Bouldin Creek

Home to several creatives, artists, and young professionals. Bouldin Creek is one of the desirable places to live in Austin due to its convenient location, modern amenities, and funky homes.  It is also one of the most walkable neighborhoods where many essential stores are just within reach. You’ll find homes and condos in Bouldin Creek with modern-contemporary designs with custom cabinetry, hardwood floors, and state-of-the-art appliance suite and high-end finishes throughout!

3. Zilker

Nestled in Austin’s hottest zip code 78704, Zilker is a dynamic and eclectic neighborhood located two miles away from downtown Austin. This family-friendly neighborhood is named after Zilker Park where large music festivals and events such as SXSW, Austin City Limits, and Trail of Lights take place. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the neighborhood’s location due to its close proximity to plenty of hiking and biking trails at the Barton Creek Greenbelt and the Lady Bird Lake!

4. Hyde Park

Hyde Park is just 4 miles to the north of Downtown Austin and the University of Texas. The neighborhood is popular with students, young professionals, faculty, and staff. The charming neighborhood is lined with trees great for everyday jogs, walking, or biking. Within Hyde Park, you can find homes built in the early 1900s including tiny cottages, Victorian mansions, newly renovated homes, and newly built custom homes. If you are looking for places to eat, drink, and shop, the neighborhood has it all!

5. Mueller

Mueller is an award-winning master-planned community to the east of I-35 and less than 8 miles away from downtown. Mueller is a neighborhood all about sustainability with the community environment to meet its housing goals and economic development. This urban village is one of the ideal places because of its easy access to stores, hospitals, and major roads. You’ll be able to find a variety of home styles from rowhouses, garden houses, and yard homes as well as condos and apartments! The community has its own retail center, the Mueller Retail Center, and market district, The Mueller Market District.

6. Holly

Holly is an established neighborhood in Austin less than 3 miles away from downtown Austin. Here you’ll find a variety of home styles from old, historic homes to newly built developments such as single-family homes and condos that are now attracting new, young residents to the area. In the 1960s, a power plant was built and demolished, the land was then turned into a local park! Residents in the area enjoy the local restaurants lined up at the neighborhood alongside natural trails with beautiful views.

7. Cherrywood

Located on the east of I-35 and about 4 miles away from downtown Austin, Cherrywood is a neighborhood in East Austin composed of several communities including French Place and Delwood. Cherrywood consists of homes with different styles from ranch-style homes, craftsman cottages, duplexes, apartments, and condos. Cherrywood has its own pocket park where residents can host events, picnic with their friends and family, or venture a few blocks away to the Willowbrook Reach for hiking!
